I have always had a certain nostalgia about firsts and lasts. There is something so beautifully disturbing about first hello's and last goodbye's. Transitions are essential to the task of being human and yet when they come they still feels so awkward that I can't help but embrace them with fumbling steps. Today was a day of firsts for my second. Elle started preschool! My beautiful little girl has embarked on a new transition of independence. A hello to new friends, new teachers and a new school. Of course she loved every minute of it while I cried in the car all the way home.
So here is a blessing to fill the space between when I drop her off for her first hello's and when I pick her up and get to hear all about them.
To my Elle,
May the love that we have for you linger around you so that you can call on it whenever you feel the need.
May an unseen Providence guide your thoughts and nurture your feeling.
May you awaken to adventures and learn to find ease in beginnings.
May anxiety never linger about you.
May you be generous with laughter and slow to criticize.
May you find friends who are sensitive to the rythyms of your soul and in turn may you learn to be a good friend yourself.
May you have the courage to speak for the excluded ones.
May you always dwell in a safe place, full of understanding and acceptance, where you can be as you are, without the need of any mask of pretense or image.
And lastly, may you find someone who will trade you for the all natural, raw food bars that your mom packs you for snack :)
– All my love always
